Introduction

The Hero Mavrick 440 is an intriguing blend of the familiar and the unknown. As Hero’s most premium and largest displacement motorcycle yet, it aims to redefine the commuter segment while retaining the company’s core strength of excellent value.

The design and charm of motorcycle is completely out of box for Hero Motocorp because since past couple of decades their focus was more on smaller CC segment bikes and their sales but after the launch of new karizma XMR now they are trying to enter the market of premium segment of bike.

While the bike was launched after the launch of Hero X Harley Davidson X440. The project of Mavrick 440 started even before when DavidsonX440 was thought of. While the bike in performance might feel similar to DavidsonX440 but with completely different ergonomics.

This was first time when Hero has done perfect event for the launch of Mavrick 440. Event was held in Bhuj, Gujarat where the pre-production bikes were given for testing.

Hero Mavrick 440: Engine and Performance

The Mavrick shares its air- and oil-cooled 440cc single-cylinder engine with the Harley-Davidson X440. This means a similar riding experience in comparison to Harley Davidson X440with a wide spread of torque across the rev band. Picking up speed at low RPMs and surfing the wave into higher tachometer ranges is a joy. The torque delivery of Mavrick 440 feels very good with the good roar of exhaust.

Due to good low end torque in Hero Mavrick 440 the initial pickup is top notch in bike but since it has long stroke engine but you will not find more speed on higher rpm. But that long stroke engine has nice vibe to it. While the city rides will be very comfortable on bike one can also be very comfortable on highways as well with cruising speed of 100 to 115 kmph.

However, there are noticeable vibrations beyond 5000 RPM, especially at the handlebar and foot pegs. But this is a long stroke engine higher rpm in this sort of engine can produce vibration in any type of bike. Although for cruising on highway with the feel of wind on your face engine of Mavrick 440 does an exceptional work.

Hero Mavrick 440: Design

Hero Motocorp has done very good work with designing and fit and finish. The bike feels like a neo-classical retro motorbike with very good tank design. The wire management which felt little bit awkward in Harley Davidson X440, Mavrick 440 has done good job in that.

However, the instrument cluster feels little bit small for bike and rev counter is very small. Rev counter feels very small in instrument cluster, in open rides with sun overhead you might not get very clear view of revcounter. However, need of revcounter does not feel very necessary on this bike because around 4000rpm you will get 36Nm of torque.

Overall look of bike looks mesmerising. One can say that images of bike donot do justice. Backside of bike looks good and catchy for eye. Indicators are not very much sharp looking like other but it still looks good on bike. The look of exhaust note looks good which a negative point is in Harley Davidson x440 because Harley had more focus on sound of exhaust which in helmet feels like Harley Davidson V twin engine.

But in case of Mavrick 440 it feels very raw type of thump that will make people to look around and Hero Mavrick 440 has very good looks for exhaust note. The roar of engine when you open the Throttle feels like music to ears of rider.

Hero Mavrick 440: Ergonomics

Hero Mavrick 440 have very neo classical retro look but it donot have very committed position unlike other bikes. It has very upright position with wide handle bars and tank rider will feel very less strain on body. The designing of bike is not only done with consideration of rider but also with consideration of pillion as well.

Bike has got very good thick and soft seat which is also quite large for the comfort of both rider and pillion. Positioning of foot peg for pillion is really placed quite well. Even in longer rides with pillion, rider will not feel very much strain on bike and while riding.

Making around tight corners with slight leaning feels very confident on bike. While the vibration rider will feel around 4500-5000rpmit does not feel very straining for both bike and rider.

Hero Mavrick 440: Chassis, suspension and tyre setup

Hero motocorp had history of doing phenomenal job with suspension, chassis and clutch. Mavrick 440 shows it very beautifully. The chassis of bike feels quite strong and not very much heavy. Hero Mavrick 440 has 6 speed gear box with slipper assist clutch which makes downshifting on bike very good and smooth. The responsiveness of gears and while shifting does not show any sign of blocking. With smooth gear box and very nice slipper assist clutch taking the bike to higher rpm might not feel very big problem.

Hero Mavrick 440 have 43mm telescopic front suspension while in rear you will get twin shock setup. Many riders may get upset that they are not getting upside down and mono-shock suspension setup, riders also have to consider that although there is twin shock suspension which works super well in any road condition, and rider will not feel very high bumps and shock on bad roads and terrains. Suspension works very well even though it is not mono-shock suspension. While cornering around twin shock setup of Mavrick 440 feels very confident.

With tyre setup Hero has done very good job Front :-110/70-17, Rear :-150/60-17 which ride very well in both city and highway condition with good suspension setup you can do little bit of offroading while saddling. But for heavy off-roading bike is not meant for it. But the build is quite very well.

Hero Mavrick 440: Braking

Hero Mavrick 440 got very good braking system with front break diameter of 320mm and rear break diameter of 240mm with Anti lock-Braking System (ABS). With very responsive performance of breaks and ABS setup the skidding of bike on higher speed becomes very minimal.

Hence, the braking system is very responsive and stable on both higher speed and low revolution band as well.

Conclusion:

Novice riders or those riders who rode only 100-200cc bikes this bike is a great update. Rider will not feel any lack of performance in city ride while on highway you will get cruising speed of 100kmph to 115kmph with very good mileage of 35kmpl to 40kmpl. However, commercial unit of bike is still not available in market so we cannot claim that rider will get exact figure of mileage.

Mavrick 440 has good low end torque and very good performance on bike. Riders who mainly ride around city for daily commutes and do occasional highway touring despite of distance can consider Hero Mavrick as their next bike.
